essay 1

essay 2

module 1
univerise is big, life is likely to exist seomwhere else in some primitive form. thats not
scientific though. the question for intelligent life though?

life came about quickly after the formation of speciifc condition, but then question for
evolution comes up. could be microbial basic very simple life, but the chances that it
evolved to a self realised life form is just a guess.

not binanry - open to persuasion.

confirmed-aliens-but-the-government-wants-to-learn-more

are we alone notes 1

, mentions about ufo sitings - contradictorily only spotted in norther america? not
south? some part of europe, but not china? or russia?

cuultural?

overlap with military industrial complex because theyre ususally spotted around there

evidence for extraterrestrial life for example on teh moon funnily enough comes from
earth. similarly people on earth could be martians or people on mars could be
earthlings because rocks are blasted off into space all the time - one might just carry
the necessary matter to initate life.

weird part - the mode of discovery is important? whether as a picture of soemone
talking to us or some matter detected on a probe. maybe what contitues life is beyond
our understanding and the discovery migth change that.

most likely detailed bit of science that is detected by our technology

example of finding phosphene on venus - we know that it likely wont support life as
its conditions are very extreme with sulfur cloud and storms. but cool find

it is importnat because it would challenge our current ideas of where life came from.
and we’re alive so we owe it to ourselvees to find out where we came from.
experience humilty, guage the position of humans relative to our environment.

very long term. even if you find results of there not being any life outside this planet,
the resources spet on this search aren’t in vain.

are we alone notes 2

, questioning our uniqueness.

usually to get funding, science has to have an application. for example political
physics, human space exploration, putting people on the moon, prospects of
colonising mars are all very expensive pursuits.

benefits for us on earth are not always obvious and research can help us discover
those. pursuing stuff that can have commerical use (spin offs) or generate money
should not be how knowledge should work

group of scientist have a protocol for contacting extraterrestrial life. it would be a very
public matter and might be affected by religion/culture.

nations might start competing for control over teh knowledge and extreme chaos
would ensue. they would want to be closer to the source and gain authority on how it
works - quite like the cold war years (50s and 60s). despite knowing the naivety of
such actions

what to respond and what to send back is the next pressing matter.

should we leave them and tread lightly? space exploration on mars is prohibited in the
actual area where water might be so as to not transfer micro organisms from earth.
however, this international treaty doesn’t govern private exploration so elon musk is
free to do whatever.

more to the issue than our interest in evolution and astronomy.

who speaks for humanity?

darwinian survival of the fittest metaphors for example the fear of beign eaten. it might
be irresponsible to send those messages because what’s out there could be lethal
