Involves polymers with functional groups

A functional group is a group of atoms which are responsible
for the chemical properties of a compound

When monomers react, bonds for between them, making
polymer chains. For each new bon that forms a small
molecule (like water) is lost

Dicarboxylix acid monomers can react with diol monomers to
form ester links

The dicarboxylic acid molecules contain two carboxylic acid Condensation polymers
groups (-COOH) and the diol monomers contain two alcohol
groups (-OH)

The molecle with the ester link has a functional group at the end
which can react during condensation reactions making the chain
longer
Polyesters
Alcohol and carboxylix acid functional groups react, losing a
small molecule - water

A small molecule is formed as a by-product each time a bond is
formed between two monomers

The series of these reactions is known as condensation
polymerisation and the resultant polymer is called an ester

Polymers are substances with high RAMS made by joining
up lots of small repeating unites called monomers

Monomers are single unites from which plymers are made

Addition polymerisation is when many small alkene molecule Addition Polymers
join up to form a long chain molecule of repeating units
