Localisation of the function of the human brain

Psychologists Broca and Wernicke discovered that special areas of the brain are associated
with particular physical, and psychological functions.

Before this, scientists supported the holistic theory, all parts of the brain were involved in
processing thought and action.

Always draw the brain on the left side of the brain (broca and wernicke area only found on
the left side).

Localisation of function- different areas of the brain are responsible for different behaviours,
functions, processes or activities.
- If one area is damaged = function can’t work properly.

The brain is divided into two hemispheres: left and right.

The left hemisphere controls the right side activity, the right hemisphere controls the left side
of the activity.

Left hemisphere is based on logic
Right side is based on creativity

Women tend to have a larger left hemisphere than men.

The cerebral cortex is the outer layer of the cerebrum (jelly coat)

The occipital lobe = vision (optician)

The temporal lobe = hearing (ears) and auditory info.

Parietal lobe = 5 senses, somatosensory areas, info of the skin is represented.

The frontal lobe = control and motor area, movements.
