Musculoskeletal
P1
The musculoskeletal is an organ system in humans and animals which allows
movement using the skeletal and muscular muscles. The movement happens when
the nervous system sends a message to the skeletal muscle which allows the
muscles to contract. Once the muscles have contracted it pulls on the tendon and
the tendon connects the muscles to the bones. The tendon pulls the bones allowing
movement to happen. The musculoskeletal system is made up of skeletons,
muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligament, and joints. A skeleton is made up of 206
bones in a human. Each bone in the human skeleton(endoskeleton) is important and
useful. The skeleton has four functions which are supporting, posture, protection,
and movement. The skeleton supports by keeping the body up and structured well.
The skeleton second function is posture which gives the body the correct shape. The
skeleton gives protection for the organs so that they do not get destroyed. The last
function of the skeleton is movement, the skeleton allows every bone in the body to
move. Bones are made out of phosphorus, calcium, and sodium, inside the bone
there is a substance called bone marrow which produces blood. There are five
different types of bones which are long bones, short bones, flat bones, irregular
bones, sesamoid bones. The first type of bones are long bones which are located in
the humerus, femur, tibia, and fibula. The second type of bones are short bones
which are located in the carpals and tarsals. Third type of bones are flat bones that
are located in sternum, ribs, and cranial bones .The fourth type of bone is irregular
bones which are found in the vertebrae, the vertebrae give protection to the spinal
cord. The last type of bone is sesamoid bone which is a very little round bone
located in the patella. The function of the bone is to project the organs, so they do
not get damaged. Bones get attach to muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

Cartilage is a rubbery, flexible tissue which does not contain any blood vessels or
nerves. Cartilage projects bones apply pressure on other bones which could lead to
it breaking. There are three types of cartilage used in the human body which are:
elastic, fibrous, and hyaline. Elastic cartilage is the cartilage found in the ear , this
cartilage gives strength to the ear and structure. Fibrous cartilage which is the
strongest cartilage is found in the disks in vertebrae. The function of the fibrous
cartilage is to reduce friction from happening. Hyaline is a common cartilage in the
body which is found in the ribs, lungs and nose. It has thin fibres of collagen that
gives strength to the cartilage. There are numerous of places in the body that have
cartilage for e.g., tip of the nose, ears, lungs and in the intervertebral disc. There is
cartilage in the nose because the cartilage gives the nose a structure/shape and it
