,1.2. What new skills and techniques did you learn
during the project?
When it comes to project management, it includes loads of roles from planning to managing
the project in order to achieve the outcome, and multiple techniques and methods to run
the project properly. So, an individual and businesses can learn new skills and techniques
from managing projects. From my website development project, I have picked some new
techniques:
Team collaboration
Using it I assembled a skilled, cross-functional team specializing in web development, and
establishing effective communication channels for seamless collaboration among team
members. I gave each team member roles to fulfil (design, front-end, back-end, etc.).
Risk Management:
From risk management I was able to Identify risks: Identifying potential risks such as
technical challenges, changes in requirements, or unforeseen issues.
Mitigation Strategies: I was also able to develop strategies to moderate risks and having
contingency plans in place to address unforeseen challenges.
Client Communication: Stakeholder Engagement: During this project I tried engaging with
clients and stakeholders regularly to provide updates, gather feedback, and ensure
alignment with their expectations.
Change Management: in which it there are changes to the project scope or timeline
effectively managing and communicating.
Managing your time and tasks
I had done breaking down the tasks by defining project scope, creating the tasks needed
using Gantt chart, determining key milestones in the project timeline, collaborating with
teams to gather input on task breakdown…etc.
Using Gantt chart to manage the tasks provided a clear timeline of project tasks and their
scheduled start and end dates, understanding relationships between tasks along with
progress tracking, it also helped me to develop contingency plans and mitigate risks before
they impact the project.
In order to prioritise tasks throughout the project based on their criticality., I have used the
MoSCoW Method, in which tasks are categorized into Must-haves, Should-haves, Could-
haves, and Won't-haves to help prioritize based on criticality. From this method, I have
learned how to identify high-priority tasks to help manage risks, and it enhanced
communication with the project team.
I then created a wireframe of the future layout of my website's pages. Throughout this
process, I refined the wireframe and produced a precise design complete with text boxes. I
also considered every page I would have on the website. After that, I began learning and
applying HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on my website. After that, I tested the coding to make
, sure my website was operating properly. I was adding minor features like a search engine
and social network pages to the website by this point because I was pretty finished with it.
Next, I took care to review every section of the website, giving special attention to the
navigation bar and images. Following this, I had done a review
Managing Risks
As these types of projects can be complex, and mistakes can occur at various stages of the
process. Identifying and addressing these mistakes promptly is crucial for the success. For
example, a mistake I have done is neglecting search engine optimization (SEO) during
development, this had an impact the website's visibility and performance on search
engines.
However, a solution I found for this error is to incorporate SEO best practices from the
beginning, including proper use of meta tags, optimizing images, and creating a search
engine-friendly URL structure.
Risk Planning: (Risk Mitigation Strategies) For high-priority risks, I created specific plans to
mitigate or minimize their impact, which involved contingency planning, resource allocation,
or changes to the project plan.
With communication: I had maintained open communication channels within the project
team. Encourage team members to report emerging risks, and regularly review and update
the risk register.
Managing your Resources
Project resource management involves the planning, allocation, and utilization of various
resources to ensure the successful completion of a project. Resources can include personnel,
equipment, materials, time, and budget. When it comes to managing resources such as
budget estimates, equipment…etc for my website development project, I have used various
methods and techniques such as:
Creating Gantt Chart: In addition to providing a clear timeline of project tasks and their
projected start and end dates, using a Gantt chart to manage the tasks allowed me to track
progress and understand the relationships between the tasks from creating the website’s
pages to testing it. It also made it easier for me to create backup plans and reduce risks
before they had an influence on the project.
Human Resources: Individuals are crucial in project completion, driving tasks and requiring
sufficient knowledge and expertise for team members to make informed decisions and
efficiently complete tasks. In order to manage my team and their roles I have used an
attendance tracking software as it gives me an overview on the team, who’s absent and for
how long by using patterns.
Financial Resources: Cost and budget management was a crucial aspect of web
development project management that involves accurately estimating, allocating, and
controlling project costs to minimize budget overruns. To manage budget resources, as
