-have a chemical structure intermediate b/w that of acrylic resin & those of dental
composite materials
-contain some filler
-available in a variety of shades

celluloid crown forms - ANS--clear, thin, preformed celluloid crown can be used as mold
-mold is filled w/ acrylic or other resin material
-celluloid is not affected by & does not bond to acrylic material
-thermoplastic: can be warmed & stretched to enlarge the opening
-can be made smaller by cutting a slit, overlapping edges & joining the overlap w/ a drop
of acetone
-filled w/ an acrylic material
-thin celluloid material is stripped off before trimming & cementing of temp crown

constructing the temp crown - ANS-1. insert crown prep tooth into your dento-form
2. lube dento-form w/ prepared tooth w/ patrolium jelly
3. mix powder & liquid of acrylic resin to thick consistancy
4. fill mold of prepped tooth. wait until acrylic material had reached doughy consistancy
5. seat material on the prepped tooth on the dento-form, material may ooze over ging
6. allow material to set to semirigid state & remove
7. trim any gross excess w/ scissors, interprox areas w/ sharp bladed instrument.
Reseat temp crown on dento-form & wait until acrylic resin has become hard & rigid

contructed temp crowns - ANS--made in mouth on a prepared tooth by using a mold to
form outer surface
-mold can be on a cast or in mouth before the tooth is prepped
-mold should have an ideal shape
-molds may be made of waxes, elastic impression material or thermoplastic polymer
-must be soft so material sets or cools and becomes semisolid forming a negative of the
ideal tooth
-resin systen is mixed & placed in mold, seated in mouth over prepped tooth
-material sets and is removed
-excess material is trimmed to form temp crown
