Even though Britain was better financially and militarily, the US won because of support
from France and a strong commitment from the rebels. France gave aid after the Battle

Created a very weak central government that could not tax or make a military. Very
weak because most Americans at the time were afraid of an oppressive government like

Created process for admitting states into the Union, and outlawed slavery in Northwest
