Unit 6- Preparing for employment in travel and tourism

Task 3: Final deadline- 17/12/2018

Wiktoria Pasieczny

P6: For the first part of the assignment (criteria P6) I will be describing the factors such as the
working environment, incentives, working relationships and or trainings which contribute to an
effective workplace in the travel and tourism organisations.

Location: Location is one of the major factors that contributes to an effective workplace, as well as
the staff members working effective preforming work tasks with pleasure. The atmosphere and
location of work has a major impact on how the employees feel towards their job and its
performance. For example, when holiday resort representative may feel better when working in a
hot destination with good weather will make them happy which therefore results in great customer
service customer and so on.

Working conditions: Organisation must ensure that the working conditions are up to a good
standard to allow their employees feel good in working for the company. For example, if the
cleanliness levels are poor in e.g. some hotel employees may not want to work for the company,
have low work motivation resulting in bad performance at work, negative word of mouth which
results in bad reputation for the company.

Hours of work: The working regulation from 1998 are that the working hours depend on different
ages for everyone for example employees over 18 years old can work up to 48 hours per week with
an allowance of 5 weeks of holiday per year, and for people between the age 16-18 years old cannot
work more than 40 hours per week and must have a 30 minutes break when working for more than
4.5hours. Having a set amount of hours of work makes the workplace more productive, as
employees know what holidays and shifts they are working as well as they get fair amount of breaks,
days off and holidays which ensures that no one overworks and therefore can focus better.

Health and safety: There are specific health and safety regulations when it comes to different travel
and tourism sectors as well as organisations. For example, for hotels or restaurants food must be
served at a high standard of hygiene, appropriate uniforms such as gloves or bonnet must be worn
by chefs or people cooking the food, for swimming pools right chemicals levels must be used at
resorts and hotels, all staff must pass a DBS check carefully. Health and safety procedures very
important for an effective workplace as it ensures that employees and customers are safe at all
times, organisation following health and safety procedures may avoid tehri businesses being closed
down due to poor health and safety standards.

Equipment: Equipment may include things such as computers and or systems that are important for
employees working for the company. Organisations must ensure that the equipment is working at all
times quickly ns efficiently to allow employees preform their work properly such as travel agents do
bookings for their customers or hotel receptionist book, check in/out customers in the hotel. Good
quality working equipment at a workplace makes the work fast and effective for their employees as
well as more pleasurable to perform.

Resources: Resources help make a positive working environment at a workplace, for example when
staff have a place such as staff room or chilling room where they can freely relax during their breaks,
use onsite stationary items etc.
