Sijul Miah/Emily Oduro Unit 27: P3 M2 13th June 2019
Ethan Fendley

P3

For every department, they all contain different roles that they must carry out regarding health and
safety. In this assignment, I will evaluate three departments and explain what their roles are.

Technicians – Most schools in the 21st century rely on technology when operating daily, Stanmore
college is one of those schools as pens and paper are rather useless as everything is done on computers
or laptops and presented on projectors and whiteboards. That is just a few of the tech the college uses
daily. Another technological items can be the simple things such as the lights or ID scanners. The job of a
technician is to make sure that all the technology is running smoothly and there’s no problems but if
there is, they should fix the issue efficiently as they are experienced in that field. Faulty electronics can
be dangerous for students if not replaced or fixed as they could blow up in rare cases or they could
electrocute the students or staff. They are basically in charge of preventing any electronic hazards from
taking place, so they are preventing but also mending if not properly protected.

Medical department – Health and safety is a big part of the medical department in general as they focus
on the wellbeing of all students and staff in the college. While they are focuses on health and safety,
their focus is the physical wellbeing of everyone like injuries etc. The medical departments jobs are to
take care of the students physically tending and mending to any injury external or internal they may be
dealing with. For example, if a student was to slip outside and graze their knee, the medical staff would
have to tend and mend the student the best way they can so they can fix this issue. This is to prevent
more bleeding or the student getting infected if the cut is deep. While they mend the injury, they are
not a department that focuses on how to prevent it from happening. Their responsibility is rather
limited as they are experts in the medical field but have a decent knowledge to handle most things that
could happen in the college. If they are unable to handle the problem within the college, they would
have to handle the issue offsite with a more experienced person.

Janitors – These are the people that take care of the hygiene in the college, this can be from simple
cleaning of the college to clearing up any messes such as spills. These employees are highly needed in
many businesses but schools are a place these people are need most as students and staff can be very
messy at times and if there are any messes it could be a hazard for any students or staff as they could
slip and hurt themselves. The responsibility of the cleaners are to clear any messes found around the
college, clean the toilets and overall clean the college so that there’s no dirt and students can’t get sick
etc. a good example where janitors prevent any issues is when there are spills on the floor, the janitors
must place signs and clean the mess the best they can to prevent students from accidently slipping on
the water etc. On rare cases when it snows, they are responsible for putting salt down preventing
student from slipping on the ice and getting injured. They prevent and mend any issues that could cause
harm to students.
