Introduction
In this assignment, I will talk about the recruitment process of Tesco, the
company history and examine factors for workforce planning.
Company history of tesco
Tesco is a british multinational retail business and is a general stock retailer
and the headquarter is located in Hertfordshire, UK. Tesco is the bigggest
retailer in the UK and has over 7,500 stores with over 500,000 employees
across 12 countries included the uk and other countries such as poland,
slovakia, ireland, india, hungary thailand and turkey. The business was
founded in 1919 when jack cohen started selling additional groceries fro; a
stall in brixton, london. Jack cohen made a profit of £1 from sales of £4 and
the business became visible in 5 years and then later within 1924 when jack
cohen bought a shipment of tea from Mr. T.E Stockwell.
P.1 the factors for workforce planning
Workforce planning
Process of analysing a business likely future need. Businesses need to match
the skills, knowledge and number of employees to their current and future
needs in order to work out these needs they will have to review the current
needs and skills in their employees. Tesco has a workforce planning which
involves appraisals every 3 months so that they can meet the needs of staff.
,Some skills they would need to assess at tesco are things like putting out
stock and serving customers face to face.
Growth of the business
As tesco expands its operations locally, nationally and internationally, the
demand for additional employees increases to support the business’
activities effectively
Changing job roles
With technology and social changes, this affects the ways the ways the
training and jobs are performed, and factors such as introduction of self
service tills in stores since 2002 led to less job roles of working on tills. If
employees also do not meet demands, Tesco will not hesitate to replace
them.
Systems change
Because of technology, the processes and systems as well as the skills and
behaviours of employees changes too and an example of this is with online
shopping, new stores have to be created for employees who make orders as
well as delivery drivers.
Filing new vacancies
The expansion of tesco and physical space which includes introduction of
new products, customer service needed, means that the recruitment of new
employees for increased workload and to meet demands of stores is
necessary
Vacancies caused by turnover staff
When employees leave or turnover happens within the business, it creates
available vacancies in their previous positions that must be filled to maintain
operational continuity
Internal promotions
Promoting current employees to higher roles can lead to available vacancies
in their previous positions. In comparison to external recruitment, internal
recruitment saves money and avoids expenses of advertising. It also means
, internal employees have more knowledge and familiarity with how the
business operates daily
New office or branch
The establishment of a new office or branch usually requires the hiring of
additional employees to manage new location effectively and cater to the
expanded customer base.
seasonal fluctuations leading to the requirement for temporary staff.
For many businesses, there sales will increase at seasonal times like
christmas, easter, summer holidays etc. and businesses will recruit
temporary staff to help filll the demand. Tesco will offer an increased wage to
encourage employees to work over these times for extended times.
How the recruitment process is linked to Tesco’s business success
The recruitment process is used as a away to acquire employees that align
with tesco’s values, culture, skills and job requirements and professionally
recruiting people, tesco makes sure that the right candidates are selected to
contribute to the company’s success. In addition, a well structured
recruitment process not only helps the company to identify suitable
candidates but also plays a role in staff integration. Effective recruitment
procedures for new employees are important for them to adapt quickly to
new rules within tesco and by providing training and support during the
recruitment process, Tesco makes sure that new employees feel welcomed,
informed and prepared to contribute effectively in the business’ daily
operations.
How a professional recruitment process leads to efficient staff
integration
A professional recruitment process contributes to successful staff integration
by having clear communication, expectations and support. Through effective
recruitment processes, tesco can cultivate a motivated and engaged
workforce which leads to higher employee satisfaction, retention and
contributes to a successful company. By investing in a professional
recruitment approach, Tesco not only secures the right candidates for the job
but also pushes the company towards its strategic objectives and long term
success.
