Unit 13: Recruitment and Selection in Business
P1
P1 Identify how two organisation plan recruitment using internal and external sources
In this assignment, I will be identifying and describing the different stages in process that
Tesco and Trafford College go through in their different recruitment and selection planning.
Recruitment process refers to the overall process of assessing, judging, selecting, and
appointing suitable candidates for the job required within the organisation.
Tesco is a massive online retailer and delivery business that has started providing people
with their products and service only within UK which then became an international
cooperation. It is a massive retailer that offers a range of items including groceries, wines,
home, electronic, DVD rental as well as other service such as banking service etc. Trafford
College Group (TCG) on the other hand, is a further learning insinuating in Trafford, Greater
Manchester, England. It is one of the leading training providers in Trafford and Greater
Manchester which is a combination of few colleges that have been merged in 2007. It is
providing a wide range of courses from beginner to degree level such as offering BTEC and
NVQ qualifications.
Recruitment planning
The first stage of recruitment that both Tesco and TCG will have to go though is the process
of applying to job (the application). This is happened when the business advertises its new
available job and let candidates to apply for via different method of applying, however there
must be lots of works to be done before this stage. There are various reasons for them to
think about recruiting someone within the organisation, therefore they will need to use
either internal or external recruitment methods.
Reasons for a vacancy
For most of the companies, there will be various reason that a business may decide to
employ someone to a position. One of the most common reason is that an employee is
leaving to go and work with another company or just decided to stop working with them for
whatever reason, however the there are other possible reason such as:
 Extra work
 Different work
 Maternity cover
 Sickness
 High turnover
Business in general are likely to be in needs in the future for people in terms of numbers,
skills, and location. As a result, for Tesco being large retailer within and across the UK, it is
vital for them to plan for recruitment process ahead. This is because there are growing
every year, which means they will be in need to recruit on a regular basis for both the food
and non-food parts of the company. Tesco usually runs this process each year as well as
they are quarterly reviews in May, August, and November, in order to meet the demand of
new necessarily staff.
