14th Amendment - ANS-granted citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the
United States," which included former slaves recently freed. In addition, it forbids states
from denying any person "life, liberty or property, without due process of law" or to "deny
to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
1st degree murder - ANS-Murder that is planned
2nd degree murder - ANS-Intentional and unlawful (heat of the moment)
5th Amendment - ANS-No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise
infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases
arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war
or public danger.
6th Amendment - ANS-the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public
trial without unnecessary delay, the right to a lawyer, the right to an impartial jury, and
the right to know who your accusers are and the nature of the charges and evidence
against you.
Actus Reus - ANS-The criminal act, a guilty act. (EX: HIRING HIT MAN,
THREATENING TO COMMIT A CRIME)
Adjudication - ANS-Examination of the issues of fact and law for the purpose of
reaching a judgement of conviction or acquittal
Administrative Law - ANS-Controls the activities of industries, business and individuals.
Aggravated Assault - ANS-Inflicting serious injury upon the person of another.
Alibi - ANS-A statement or contention by an individual charged with a crime that he or
she was so distant when the crime was committed, the defendant could not have
committed the crime.
Arraignment - ANS-Hearing before the court having jurisdiction in a criminal case in
which: the identity of the defendant is established, defendant is informed of the charges
against him/her, the defendant is informed of his/her rights and requested to enter a
PLEA.

Civil Justice - ANS-A component of social justice concerned with fairness in
relationships between citizens, government agencies, and business
Civil Law - ANS-The branch of modern law that governs relationship between parties
Consent - ANS-Whatever harm was done occurred only gave his or her permission for
the behavior in question after the injured person. EX: RAPE
Correction - ANS-The sentencing is carried out
Correctional Agencies - ANS-Respect the legal rights and human right of the convicted.
Rehabilitate, reform and reintegrate convicted offender back into the community. protect
the community, provide safe and human custody and supervision of offenders,carry out
sentence impose by courts.
Crime - ANS-Behavior that goes against a local and federal laws
Crime-Control-Model - ANS-Emphasizes the efficient arrest and conviction of offenders.
