Describe the physiological effect and pharmacological action of Digoxin - ANS-Digoxin
is a cardiac glycoside. It increases the strength and efficiency of heart contractions
(contractility of the heart), and control the rate and rhythm of the heart.

Digoxin increases the force of contraction of the heart muscles by inhibiting the activity
of an enzyme (ATPase) that controls movement of calcium, sodium, and potassium into
heart muscle.

Digoxin also slows electrical conduction between the atria and the ventricles of the heart
and is useful in treating abnormally rapid atrial rates

Systolic Heart Failure - ANS-The contractility of the heart is impaired due to the
enlargement of the heart and weakness/thinning of the myocardium/heart muscle. This
means the heart is unable to effectively pump the blood out of the ventricles. "pumping
