CSE 2050 Module 12 - Graphs
DFS - ANS-Strongly Connected Components
Useful for exploring graphs, finding connected components

BFS - ANS-Shortest Path in unweighted graphs
Useful for exploring graphs, finding connected components

Weighted Graph - ANS-Each edge has a weight or cost
Typically numeric (ints, decimals, doubles, etc.)
Some graphs allow negative weights; many do not
Shortest path may not be from BFS

Dijkstra's Algorithm - ANS-Single-source shortest path problem
No negative-weight edges
Maintain a set S of vertices whose shortest-path distances from s are known.
Initially S = {s}, and d(s) = 0
At each step add to S the vertex u exists in V - S whose distance estimate from s is
minimal
Update the distance estimates of vertices adjacent to u
d[v] = min(d[v], d[u] + w(u,v))

Relaxation - ANS-Maintaining this shortest discovered distance d[v] is called relaxation

Prim's Algorithm - ANS-Same as Dijkstra's, except that you are greedily adding shortest
edges. Edges with minimal weights causing no cycles is selected.
Only looks at neighbor weights, not total weight: k[v] = min(k[v], w(u,v))
