Once you have finished your two paragraphs answer the following questions using evidence
from the texts. Do not forget to use the correct literary terminology with your evidence- eg.
monologue/ stage directions/ dialogue, characterization, etc.

1. Summarize the dreams of Walter, Mamma, George, and Lennie. Add evidence to
support your points.

Walter's Dream:

Walter has a dream of becoming wealthy by investing in a liquor
store. Walter lacks pride in himself and respect from his clients at
work. Hence becoming affluent is the only way for him to gain
pride and respect. In human nature, we all want what we don’t
have. Walter has never gotten respect or wealth he wants to reach
these aspects and experience them for himself. The greed in him
causes him to want more for himself. He can’t care for himself and
the same goes for his ability to take care of his family. His
powerlessness is reflected in his dream of becoming wealthy, power
and respect come along the lines of money.

Evidence:

“Mama – sometimes when I’m downtown and I pass them
cool-quiet-looking restaurants where the white boys are sitting back
and talking ‘bout things…sitting there turning deals worth millions
of dollars…sometimes I see guys who don’t look much older than
me”

Walter has worked as a chauffeur for the wealthy white men in his
community. Through his dialogue, Walter compares himself to
these people who are similar to him in age. However, he is not able
to prosper in wealth with ambition like those “white boys”. His
current job, family, and financial state are concerning and they have
just enough money to keep the family running. He has a dream of
becoming affluent and wealthy as well as attaining the
qualifications to be able to enter these “cool looking restaurants”
and to discuss “deals worth millions of dollars”. This is something
that Walter does not have now. His circumstances contrast with
what he sees.

Mamma Dream:

Mamma’s dream relates to security and protection. Her dream is to
buy a house for the family. Since she doesn’t feel safe or taken care
