INVISIBLE MECHANICS

"don't be a normie, i guess"

,INVISIBLE MECHANICS

, Transition Elements
d-block elements are present from fourth period onwards. There
are mainly three series of the transition metals, (a) 3 d-series (Sc
to Zn), (b) 4d-series (Y to Cd) and (c) 5d-series (La to Hg,
omitting Ce to Lu).
d-block elements are known as transition elements because
their position in the periodic table is in between the s-block and
p-block elements.

Transition metals are defined as metals which have incomplete d
subshell either in neutral atom or in their ions. Zinc, cadmium and
mercury of group 12 have full d 10 configuration in their ground
state as well as in their common oxidation states and hence, are
not regarded as transition metals

In general the electronic configuration of outer orbitals of these
elements is (n-1)d¹⁻¹⁰ ns¹⁻² except for Pd where its electronic
configuration is 4d¹⁰ 5s⁰.
