Unit 20: Investigating Corporate Social Responsibility: P3 P4 P5 M2 D2
P3/P4 Investigate the potential benefits of the CSR policy of a selected business and
Explain the potential drawbacks of the CSR policy of a selected business.
CSR standard for Corporate Social Responsibility where by an organisation ensures that it conducts
the business in a way that’s is ethical, where the business integrate and accounts for social and
environmental concerns and also consideration of the human right. This will include a wide range of
activities e.g. working with the local communities with health and safety, this will help the business
in an ethical way in the interests of the wide community and being a good buisness that encourages
them to more involved with the local community. For corporate Social Responsibility these is four
main components of CSR which are economic, legal, ethical and volunteering.

For Tesco to enable CSR policy it has given the business a good reputation showing customers that it
cares about its local community and how it operates and other range of benefits that the company
will gain from it e.g. better brand recognition, in which this will entail that their buisness will be able
to gain more consumers shopping at their store so that it will be able to increase their sales increase
and also customer loyalty. Another benefit that the company will able to gain by using CRS is that
the company has a greater ability to attract talent and retain staff because using CRS policy like
paying minimum wage and perks shows that you respect your employee, which might encourage
them to stay on.

The first benefit that Tesco will gain from using CRS policy is that it gives the workplace a positive
environment where by the buisness implanting a wide range and strong culture of corporate social
policy that will included within the company workplace from top to bottom which will help to make
a positive and creative environment, which will help the employees thrive.

Where the company gives the employees the chances and opportunity to be more involved in the
process and activities which it can benefit the teaching of new skills to staff, which can in turn be
applied and integrated into the workplace. By giving the employees a number of activities outside of
their usual work responsibilities, it gives staff the chance to contribute to work and gives them
personal time in activities that the employee might feel passionate about, or learn something
entirely new which can help enrich their own perspectives. By Tesco doing these activities, it will
help the organisations encourage growth which will support employees. Which give the company a
good public image and is constantly in the media for positive reasons.

Another benefit that Tesco will gain from integrated CRS policy into the buisness is that it gives the
buisness a positive image to the consumer which will increase brand awareness and recognition.
Nowadays people are more concerned where the food is produced i.e. if the meat is real because
Tesco had a scandal in 2013 in which some Tesco ready meal Spaghetti Bolognese has found around
40% of the meat is horsemeat. This has led to Tesco losing around £300m market value has been
wiped off after a number of its burgers were found to contain horse meat, which give the company
bad reputation.

The last benefit that Tesco will be gaining from having CRS policy is that it gives the buisness the
ability to impact in their local community positively, where by the buisness will have to keep social
responsibility in the buisness long term objective which encourages the businesses to act ethically
and to consider the environmental and social impacts of their comapny and the local community.
For example, the way Tesco operates is that every Tesco works with its local community by donating
food to foodbanks and buying equipment for the local sports community e.g. boxing, football etc.
