Task #3.1 - Report Reflection on Work Experience
Write a minimum 500-word report reflecting on your learnings from your work
experience placement:

Although I enjoyed this placement it hasn't confirmed my career area. In order to find out further
information regarding my future career area, I will need to conduct more work experience in different
field areas to see what is most suitable for me. The personal skills I used on this work experience was my
communication skills to effectively communicate with staff and customers, time management to ensure I
was always on time to work and listening to skills to make sure I listened to instructions given to me, so
no mistakes were made. The skills I gained on work experience included customer service skills which
helped me communicate and deal with customers issues and enquiries. I also gained the skill of working
in a team due to many jobs being based around teamwork. Many things went well on my work
experience. Firstly, I was able to learn a new set of skills as well as develop my skill set. This included
multitasking, problem solving and effective communication. I ended up in certain situations where I had a
chance to use these skills. For example, when a member of staff was off sick, I had to multitask between
different tasks such as working the till and taking orders. This allowed me to experience working in a fast-
paced environment. Additionally, another thing that went well was constantly receiving positive feedback
from customers and staff. Receiving this feedback motivated me as I saw my hard work being paid off.
There were a few challenges and problems I faced whilst conducting this work experience. For starters
there was 1 or 2 unhappy customers which required a lot of patience and good communication. However,
the customer wasn't listening to me making the situation difficult. To overcome this, I ensured I had
patience whilst calming the customer down as we were waiting for the manager. Secondly, another
challenge included the fast-paced environment of the restaurant. This made it a challenge during the
peak times of the restaurant as you had to multitask whilst being under pressure of time. To overcome
this challenge, me and my teammates ensured we evenly distributed the tasks between us all. Lastly,
another challenge included physical demands. Working in the restaurant included carrying heavy trays
and constantly being on my feet. To overcome this, I had to make sure I rested well on my breaks whilst
remaining physically fit. As a result of my work experience, I set myself a few goals. A short-term goal I set
myself was to build my teamwork abilities. This included working on my teamwork skills, participating in
group tasks sand supporting my teammates. A long-term goal I set me was developing leadership skills.
This included exploring future management positions as it's something I'm interested in. A work-related
goal I set myself was to enhance my customer service skills. This included on focusing on creating a
positive experience for customers by being friendly and attentive. Lastly, a skills development goal I set
myself was paying attention to detail this involved tasks such as ensuring everything is being ran smoothly
in the workplace.
