SAQ 1 Question:
a) Which model investigates what is occurring within the
person?
b) Which model's origins are from physics?
c) Which model is interested in the interaction between the
person and the environment?

Your answer:

a) Stimulus response (Psychological) model as it
investigates biological changes within someone.
b) Engineering model as it links human stress to material
stress in Hooke’s law of elasticity.
c) Interactional (Transactional) model as it focuses on
imbalanced interactions between people and their
environment.
SAQ 2 Question:
Why do you think that the stress response is associated with
flight/fight responses?

Your answer:

The difficulty to deal with stress would be like the difficulty to
staying alive from wild animals in neolithic times, hence why
the body will experience physiological changes to cope with
the stressful situation. A stress response would have been
necessary to survive in the wild, leading to the body being
prepared to run or fight. Some stressors are associated with
needing to act for example if we are threatened – the fight or
flight response mobilises the bodies resources so that we are
able to do this by either confronting the source of stress or
running away from it. However, this response is often not
appropriate for many modern stressors.
SAQ 3 Question:
Why do we need high levels of glucose when we are faced
with a stressor?

, STUDENT ASSESSMENT SAQ SHEET

Your answer:

Higher glucose levels allow for a greater energy supply to be
more alert when dealing with a stressor. More blood glucose
means more ATP can be produced, so muscles will have more
energy for movement. High levels of glucose are needed to
increase the rate of respiration in cells – so more energy is
produced to enable the actions of fight or flight.
SAQ 4 Question:
a) What are stressors?
b) Stressors can be caused by internal factors! True or false.
c) What are social stressors?
d) What is the life event scale?
Your answer:

a) Stimuli that trigger stress.
b) True. Puberty can cause stress.
c) Social stressors are items within our social world that
cause us to experience stress. They include items such
as friends, family, job, home life and social interactions.
d) The life event scale (developed by Holmes and Rahé) is
a scale that determines how much adaptation and
coping is required to deal which life changes.
SAQ 5 Question:
a. Name two biological effects of stress

b. Name two psychological effects of stress

c. Outline the effect of very high levels of stress (arousal) on
performance)

Your answer:

a. Heart rate and blood pressure rises. Increased glucose
secretion from the liver. Weakened immune system.
b. Anxiety. Anger.
c. The increased heart rate and blood flow to muscles
would allow people to move and run at their top speed.
Very high levels of stress lead to poorer performance
SAQ 6 Question:
Explain from your personal experience why social media use
may include threat, uncontrollability, and negative social
evaluation
