I achieved A, close to an A* in my politics exam due to these detailed essay plans which helped me memorise easily information.
One liberalism and one conservatism detailed essay plan split into points.
“To what extent is there more to unite rather than divide the New Right and One-Nation
Conservatism” – disagree
Unity Both adhere to the same basic conservative
ideology. Both favour policies of low taxation,
pragmatism and private property (which are all
part of how they favour meritocracy)- Both have
an intent of issuing a low taxation rate
Both accept hierarchy within society (though
One Nation aims to reduce inequalities while
NR especially aim to use them as incentives
Disunity 1. Based on society
One-Nation: less authoritarian stance in society,
and more noblesse oblige and paternalism, ‘little
platoons’
New Right: more austerity and focus on law and
order, but no noblesse oblige due to an atomistic
society (Ayn Rand) where the individual is more
important than society itself, ANTI
PERMISSIVENESS
2. Based on state
One Nation: greater state intervention and not
really ‘change to conserve’ as they are deviating
from that idea. (Michael Oakeshott believed that
the govt should do what is best for the people
now what politicians think is better for the
people)
New Right: minimal state intervention, state
limits individual freedom
3. Based on welfare/economy
One Nation: favours a welfare state
New Right: believe that the welfare state and
Keynesian economics have caused economic
troubles (Nozick was opposed to welfare state
policies believing they were related to theft)
