Area of Focus:
I chose to focus on white collar crime, more specifically police corruption, the crime of Bribery. This is because it is
categorized under white collar crime, white collar crime overall is an under the radar crime. 69% admit they don't fully
understand what exactly a white-collar crime entails – and when it comes to reporting such incidents, nearly half (44%)
wouldn't know how to do so, or who to pass the information to. Especially when the police are a force that people
report crime to, police corruption like bribery is an important area to address. Another reason I’m focusing my campaign
on police corruption is the injustice of police corruption. Some aspects like my social media post focuses on case studies
of police corruption, for example, I focus on the case of Gareth Suffling. He was jailed for 18 months for tracing and
blackmailing a prostitute’s customer, however, Bedfordshire Police's chief constable felt this was not long enough and
lodged and appeal for it to be increased to 3 years. The fact that the justice system only decided 18 months for police
corruption shows how theirs not enough negative attitudes towards it, and only when someone stepped in it was
considered and changed.
Aims:
Raise awareness – raising awareness is an important concept for a campaign, this would have an impact on my target
audience’s perception and knowledge of police corruption like bribery.
Get my campaign in public places – for my campaign to be successful it must be put in public places to reach my target
audience.
Easier reporting of white collar crimes – as in my focus, it is evident that white collar crime is not well reported by the
public.
With a campaign highlighting the issue it could result in a change in attitudes towards the sentencing of police
corruption like bribery. Overall, it would create more awareness for a crime that is not spoken about often.
Objectives/Methods & Materials:
To achieve these aims I came up with the following objectives/methods & materials.
Poster
I felt that this would be a good way to achieve my aims because it is something visible in a public place that will be the
prominent method in raising awareness of the campaign. I also felt that it would be suitable for my target audience
because it can be easy to understand from different perspectives, like younger and older generations.
I felt the language of ‘No more broken promises, say no to bribery’ is quite catchy as it links to the imagery below. I also
used the hashtag #JusticeForAll in my campaign as I felt like it would grab people’s attention, in which if they feel like
they are not in justice they are more likely to be intrigued.
Mugs
I felt that this would be a good way to achieve my aims because mugs are used usually in an office environment, my logo
will be on the mug which will make sure it is seen by multiple people in an office environment. This office environment
will predominantly be in a police station as when selling my mugs, I will ensure they get sold in police stations. I also felt
that it would be suitable for my target audience because it is an everyday thing to use, and it can remind them of my
