There are many ways in which a campaign can use media to promote their
aim. For example, a campaign may choose to use social media as their way
to bring awareness to their campaign. Social media websites allow users to
share and create content, this can be used by campaigns to reach large
audiences to try and make their campaign worldwide on people's feed. Using
social media in campaigns is cheap and easy to do, this means that lots of
campaigns will use social media to promote their purpose. 4.3 billion people
use social media and due to targeted adverts (algorithm), this means that
lots of people will come across your social media advertising. However, due
to the number of adverts people may come across, this might take away the
impact of your advertisement as they will be less likely to click on to it, also
just because someone follows a campaign doesn’t mean that they agree with
the message. Another limitation of social media is that anyone can write
whatever they want to write on the post, meaning if someone disagrees with
your view, they could write comments under the post which will look bad for
the campaign. A campaign which has famously used social media is Black
Lives Matter. On June 2nd, 2020, approximately 28 million users of social
media posted a black square with the hashtag #blackouttuesday to promote
anti-racism, this was very successful as many people took part of this
movement.
Another media used in campaigns is blogs. A blog is a website, which is
normally run by one or more people. They are written in an informal
conversational style to share views on a subject. Blogs can be constantly
updated; this is good because if the facts are time relevant then it will
interest the reader more, this will overall improve the engagement between
the writer/campaign and the audience. These blogs are written in big chunks
of information which is good because all the information can be found in one
place meaning you will find out everything you need to without having to do
extra research. On the other hand, this may also be a limitation as people
may find them boring to read if they are too long. This media use can also be
very subjective as the writer may have a different or negative opinion on the
campaign and therefore, they can manipulate the readers into agreeing with
them. Furthermore, blogs aren’t a main source of social media, this means
that people won’t just come across a blog on the internet, and they will most
likely have to search for it themselves. A campaign which has famously used
blogs is ‘unlock’. Unlock is a campaign which helps people with criminal
convictions and helps them to turn their life around. They use blogs to
promote their purpose and aim. The campaign was successful because by
