Eli and Lilly is a pharmaceutical company that works to create medicines that
improve the quality of people’s lives globally. Their work takes place within a
laboratory environment where they carry out research to discover medicines.
They have produced many medicines which help to treat various areas of health
such as oncology, cardiovascular, diabetes, neuroscience, critical care, men’s
health and musculoskeletal fields.
Placing our employees’ health and safety among our highest priorities is
consistent with the Lilly value of respect for people. Our employees are our
greatest asset, and we want them to operate in the safest environment possible.
Our health and safety programs are tailored to each of our business areas,
including sales and marketing, manufacturing, research and development, and
administrative global services. Successful injury prevention requires every
employee to be vigilant about keeping himself or herself and others safe.

The company has various departments the main ones being the research and
development and the sales and marketing department. The potential hazards
and safety measures differ in these departments however they are still equally
important for protecting anyone that works within the company.
Research and development:

Exposure to chemicals, fumes and PPE (personal protective equipment)
substances. helps to prevent any exposure to these
chemicals. Lab coats, safety goggles
and gloves would typically be worn
within a lab to avoid the risk when
chemicals have been spilt.
Labs must have suitable ventilation in
order to be a safe place to work.
Having rules in place for eating and
drinking within the lab avoids the risk
of consuming chemicals. Having a safe
storage of food and drink items will
also avoid anyone ingesting chemicals.
Training is required for all employees
and suitable qualifications.
Injuries such as cuts, trips and slips. Any personal belongings such as bags
and coats would be kept within a safe
storage away from the lab
environment which avoids the risk of
tripping.
Any chemicals spilt would be cleaned
up safely and quickly to avoid the risk
of slipping.
