Practise Q's Done
Monosaccharides are sugars made of Carbon Hydrogen and Oxygen
there are three main types:
trioses- 3 carbons, pyruvate
pentoses- 5 carbons, ribose, deoxyribose
hexoses- 6 carbons, e.g. glucose, galactose, fructose
Disaccharides are two monosaccharides joined together by a covalent glycosidic bond,
e.g.:
glucose+ glucose= maltose
glucose+ fructose= sucrose
glucose+ galactose= lactose
This is a condensation reaction because one water molecule is lost through the reaction
Polysaccharides are multiple monosaccharides joined together by glycosidic bonds
