My earliest memories as a child was when I was seven. At the age of seven I remember hearing
the news and my grandpa had passed away. You’ve been really sick for a while. I don’t have
many memories of him and I. But one of the cool memories I have of him and I is when he was
in the hospital in Charleston. He had gotten transferred there because of how sick he was so me
and my mom when they had to visit him. I remember that I talked a lot to the nurses about how
much I wanted to be a doctor. Eventually, me and my mom had to leave after a few days with
him and finally came home, the nurses had talked and had sent me a present back with him. She
had sent me a letter and a stethoscope. She wished me well and hoped to achieve my dream of
becoming a doctor. I remember how proud and excited Papa was, the only memory I have with
my papa was when he came and picked me up from my dad because I had accidentally knocked
my dad out with a book. I was still only seven. My dad had to call 911 so my Papa came to get
me since my mom was at work. I remember when my Papa got there. He thought it was hilarious
and kept picking at my dad. He picked up my dad because my dad always talk always said no
said he wouldn’t be able to say that anymore because of seven year-old and knocked him out
now. Although my dad was also kind of proud in a way. He was proud because he kept tickling
my feet which I didn’t like. I kept telling him no and to stop and he didn’t so I stuck up for
myself and protected myself away so that made my dad proud my papa picked me up so my dad
could get checked out and took me with him, those are the only two memories that I still have of
my Papa. I do believe I may have been sick for some of those memories, but I’m unsure. I just
know that at the end when I found out he had died I was seven I remember it was the first time I
had ever seen my mama cry at the time I had no idea what we all attended funeral. My mom and
dad, my grandma and my aunt and cousins were all there. Everyone was crying and I had was the
only one who was not crying but instead I acted happy for some reason. I just didn’t understand
