● A01 Working Memory Model

Working Memory Model :
Baddeley and Hitch (1974): Proposed that STM is not a unitary store must
be more complex than just a single store transferring information into
LTM.Must be an active processor, holding multiple pieces of info while
they're being worked on.
Central Executive: Attentional process: with limited processing capacity,
that monitors incoming data and directs attention to specific slave
systems. Coordinates their activities and can only process a piece of
information at a time.
Phonological Loop: Holds and processes verbal and auditory information.
Limited capacity and preserves order of information.
Has 2 subdivisions~ Articulatory process: allows for the repetition of
verbal information to aid with encoding it into memory (inner voice)
Phonological store: Holds speech for 2 secs
Visual Spatial Sketchpad: a short-term storage system for visual and
spatial (relationships between things) information in working memory for
a very short duration.
2 subdivisions: visual cache- visual info store
Inner scribe- spatial relations
Episodic Buffer: A component of working memory where information in
working memory interacts with information in long term memory (eg.
relating information you are processing to a previous memory).
Temp store that integrates info stores into single memory and sequences
it
● A03 Working Memory Model
- Dual Task Performance Baddeley and Hitch (1974)
- Provided evidence for WMM whereby ppts perform 2 tasks
simultaneously: both tasks involving C.EXEC which decreased
performanceIf they asked them to do one of the two tasks at the same
time as a verbal task then they were as good at the visual task as when
performing it alone. This shows that when undertaking two visual tasks
they compete for the limited attention and capacity of the visuospatial
sketch pad.supporting the idea that C.EXEC has a very limited processing
capacity
