Discuss Impacts of Person Centered Care Practice on Individuals.
Throughout the courseworks that we have done, I have understood the importance of laws in
delivering care to our service users and how it binds healthcare providers to do better. I also
recognised how professionalism should always be present in terms of giving care despite
differences in beliefs, ideas and values with the service user and most importantly, how
equality, diversity and inclusion should be in the hearts of healthcare practitioners to avoid
discrimination. But in order for all of these to be put into action, Person centered practice is
done. For me, all of it will provide the best care possible with the combination of person
centered approach. I have learned through these courseworks that Person centered
approach can put a lot of impacts for the individuals that we provide care for such as:
1. It shows them that they matter and that
they are being heard out.
We all know that person centered practice puts the
service user in the centre of planning and care that
allows them to tell their opinions and choices which
can only be done by being hands on to the patient
and focusing on them. And by doing so, we show the
service users that we give importance to them and
their opinions not because they pay us or because
the government does, but because they matter and we care. We also let them see that we
are here to help and support them to the best we can by showing competence and concern.
2. It shows them that their needs are the priority
and not just their health condition itself.
Creating a care plan for the patient does not only mean
that it is for their health, but it is for them holistically. The
person centered practice aims to help the individual in
every aspect that needs attention may it be Physical,
Intellectual, Emotional and Social. By getting to know
our patient properly and establishing the trust to
maintain a professional relationship and open
communication, we will be able to understand our
patient better and recognise the needs in each aspect.
And with them helping create the care plan, they can
see through their participation that it is not only their condition that we are focused on but
them, as an individual.
3. Person Centered Practice gives importance to
the Ideas, Beliefs, Values and Opinions of the
Individual.
In the person centered approach, communication is of
great importance. Not only it tells us what the individual
wants but, also what their decisions are bind with or what it
is based on which is crucial in making the care plan. An
individual may voice out opinions upon their beliefs, ideas
and values. And in creating the care plan, we respect,
