Eric Sandhu 279702-unit 20 assignment 1 Investigating Corporate Social Responsibility

In this assignment I will be talking about 2 contrasting businesses which will be Tesco plc
and Starbucks Coffee I’m writing a report for a regional business magazine. I will be
analysing the CSR issues both these contrasting businesses faces and I will also be
comparing the CSR between these businesses and evaluating environmental and social
issues both companies face.

P1/ Tesco plc Corporate social responsibility issues have a major impact on stakeholders as
it affects the relationship the business has with its customers which are important for the
business Tesco has a price checker and they try to keep their costs for items very low in
comparison to other retailers which results in more satisfied stakeholders e.g. such as
customers and employees as they are getting a very good value for their money. CSR issues
impact the stakeholders of Tesco because if the firm doesn’t have any value then there
wouldn’t be a reason for investors to invest into the firm as there are no positive attributes
coming from the company however Tesco plc donates 1percent of pre-tax to charities
which makes a positive attribute for the company and attracts more stakeholders to invest
into the firm which allows the company to grow.

CSR issues impact position of suppliers relationship with the Tesco plc as the firm depend on
trusted partnerships with their suppliers so having bad relationship with the supplier would
affect the whole firm as if the supply chain and quality of the food is bad there wouldn’t be
a lot of satisfied stakeholder meaning the business would go downhill however Tesco plc
have a good relationship with suppliers partnership as the firm has dedicated a whole a
supplier engagement team called Tesco Supplier Network this an online community where
people can share their unique creative ideas for the firms supply chain and products to
attract more satisfied customers.

Starbucks coffee : employees as stakeholders demand for getting paid better whilst also
having better working conditions but the firm is very successful as it makes their employees
their number one priority and takes good care of them by giving salaries which are paid
higher than the minimum wage which boosts the stakeholders performance in the
company. the stakeholders in the firm need to start giving feedback on what can be
improved on for an area of improvement. Starbucks can improve their corporate social
responsibility by giving feedback for improvement for their employees.

Starbucks has designed Corporate social responsibility programs for their environment the
firms CAFÉ program has created larger biodiversity and has also improved the firms shade
quality in coffee farms at this moment of time ninety percent of the firms supply is from
café certified farms this shows that Starbucks is very efficient in addressing corporate social
responsibility to their stakeholder however there is always area for improvement for the
firm to grow and have a better environment for the company which would attract and
influence more stakeholders to invest into Starbucks as they’re paying for good quality.
