Skills, Techniques and Tactics

Football Techniques
Technique is basic movement of any sport or event. In sport, we combine several techniques
into sequences to produce more complex movements. There’s many types of techniques
that a footballer can use. One of them is an inside foot pass. To complete this pass, you
need to open up your foot and kick the ball using the inside part of your foot. Putting enough
power onto the pass with great accuracy can result in a successful pass. Most of the time it’s
used to make a short pass to one of the nearby players.

Another technique can be a long range pass. Using the forefoot, you need to hit the ball with
enough power and good accuracy to reach the player. This technique is suitable when a
player is standing a fair distance away from you to switch play or to play a ball over the top
of the oppositions’ defence.

Finally, finishing with the laces. First of all, you need to make sure that your head and knee
are over the ball. Many footballers use this technique when they are trying to beat the keeper
on power basis. Accuracy is very important as you need to make sure you know where you
want the ball to go, so you need to pick the right spot of the ball to hit.

Other techniques include:
● Dribbling
● Volley
● Header
● Cross
● Control

Skills
Skill is selecting the correct technique to beat a player at a correct time. To choose and
perform the right technique at the right time, successfully, regularly and with a minimum of
effort.

One skill used in a game of football can be, when a centre back is playing out from the back
and must decide on what he’ll do next. He will have a variation of options to choose from as
he’s in a position where there will be very little pressure and it means he’ll either be able to
play it back to the keeper, play it into midfield, play it to the wing or if to just play it up the
field. This comes under all the types that a skill can be, because he’ll need to make a
decision, know his surroundings and choose which type of technique to use at the right time.

Another skill is when an attacker is 1 on 1 with the keeper and has to decide if to chip the
keeper, take it around him, take a driven shot, or if to place the ball in the net. This means
that the chances are in the attacker’s favour because he has a variety of options to choose
from.

Finally, when 1 on 1 with a full back. The options that the winger has are, try and dribble on
the outside of him, try and dribble on the inside of him, play a pass, play a through ball to a
striker, or play a 1-2 with a midfielder.
