, Introduction
In this assignment I will describe three of the many different coaching techniques. I will describe
how coaches would use of these three techniques and then go on to explain how they would
each improve a player’s ability. In addition to this, I would give examples of coaches using each
technique and explain how this would help the players. I will then create a coaching profile for
one of the coaches that I have worked with. I will explain how the uses the three techniques,
previously discussed. Finally, I will evaluate the success of their technique, using stats, evidence
and professional examples.
Three different coaching techniques and how a coach would them
Observation analysis is a technique used to analyse the effectiveness of an athlete’s
performance. Coaches in any sport are able to simply observe someone/a team play and then
provide them with constructive feedback. Observation analysis is a completely subjective form
of analysis as it is purely based on the coach’s opinions.
How a coach would use this technique:
A good analysis looks at both a player’s strengths and weaknesses. A coach would use this
technique to detect and then correct errors, in order to improve the athlete’s future
performance. The feedback that would follow as a result of this analysis shouldn’t be an
negative attack on a player in questions performance: it’s vital for a coach to discuss what was
positive and what the athlete and then move on to what could be improved. Feedback should be
a motivating tool.
How would this technique help to improve the athlete’s ability?
The sports coach would use the following process in order to use this technique to improve the
athletes:
Observation- In training and competitions
Analysis - Before, during and/or after a practice
Evaluation- Involves interpretation and decision making
Feedback- Which should be appropriate, correct and positive
Planning- Based on the information gained and in line with goals that may have been set for the
performer.
Ultimately, by using observational analysis, a coach can learn the strengths and weaknesses of
individual players/ athletes as well as the entire team. It can give coaches the knowledge
