Brief:
Andy who is thirty two years old and has recently been involved in a road traffic accident
where his partner died. Andy has been diagnosed as having post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
and has begun to self-harm.

Keira who is fifty four has become addicted to pain killers following surgery three years ago. Keira found
the surgery traumatic as it followed a diagnosis of cancer and has altered her appearance.

I have been working with Andy and I trust he has started acting this way and self-harming since he feels
regretful that his accomplice passed on in the misfortune and not him. Self-hurting could be a way that
Andy indicates disappointment and blame about what occurred. It could likewise be an approach to
demonstrate that since Andy's accomplice was in torment he has an inclination that he needs to live in
torment also on the grounds that he has lost a loved one.

Behaviourist perspective:
The behaviourist approach is about how the behaviour is learnt through reinforcements and
punishments. The behaviourist approach is saying all behaviour is learnt from experiences of the
environment. The whole point of this perspective is that we learn our behaviour from the people who
are around us every day. For example, our friends and family members. In this approach, there are two
theories to this perspective, who are Pavlov and Skinner. Skinner believed in the operant condition and
Pavlov believed in classical conditioning.

Classical conditioning is another technique used in behaviour learning. It is a type of conditioning and
learning process in which something (conditioned stimulus) that had not previously produced a
particular response becomes associated with something (unconditioned stimulus) that produces the
response. As a result, the conditioned stimulus will elicit the response that the unconditioned stimulus
produces. Ivan Pavlov, a Russian physiologist used this form working with dogs to explore how their
digestive system acts to stimuli. He measured the rate of their salivation by attaching them to a harness
