UNIT 2: Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social care
D2. Justify ways of overcoming difficulties that may arise when implementing anti-
discriminatory practices in health and social care settings.
Anti-Discriminatory practice in health and social care settings are
very important to ensure that service users will receive the
standard of care the governments expect. But, some healthcare
practitioners and institutions still apply discriminatory practice in
their work so, in order to eradicate discriminatory practices in the
health and social care setting, the government needed to
overcome difficulties that arises when implementing anti-
discriminatory practice which was stated on the previous
coursework. So now, we will be justifying ways of overcoming
those difficulties.
In order to implement anti discriminatory practice in the health
and social care settings, the government needed to ensure that
their standards, legislations and code of practice are met and implemented continuously no
matter how many updates or changes they make. They also needed to make sure that
employers provide policies and procedures for staff to follow and perform, especially when
there is an emergency. In order to do so, they made sure that Staff are trained better and
continued their professional development.
Having better training for staffs and CPD (Continuing professional Development) will make
sure that the the service users will receive the standard of care that the government wants
them to receive. It will also make certain that no staff will care for service users without the
proper knowledge, skills and attitude that is needed for a healthcare practitioner because
they have the proper training and development, so if a staff have been a practitioner for a
long time, they will be able to work according to the legal, ethical and policy guidelines
set by legislation, professional bodies and employer, making sure that they are aware
and educated about the recent changes or updates about it so that they will be able to
implement proper work practice.
In addition to that, the commitment to the care value base will
also be highlighted when staffs have continuous professional
development and better staff training because through this, they
will be made aware frequently as to how it can help service
users improve their health using the proper standards based on
the service user’s needs and preferences.
Furthermore, the government also needed to make sure that
staffs take an affirmative action when it comes to
discriminatory practice because anti- dIscriminatory practice
aims to challenge social inequalities, prejudices and unfair
discrimination that service users experience. This can be done
by healthcare practitioners by identifying and working to
rectify examples of stereotyping and unfair discrimination that deny people or service
users equal opportunity to health care services and infringe their legal rights. Through
