P5: Explain how internet marketing has made a selected business more
efficient and successful
D1: Evaluate the effectiveness of Internet marketing in meeting customer
needs for a selected business.
Internet marketing has greatly improved efficiency in Nike and has made their
business growth and revenue exponentially higher. All of this is due to various
reasons and opportunities given to the business through the internet. For example:
Automation:
Automation in Nike is mainly seen through their website and their service that allows
customers to purchase products online and have it delivered to them all this without
anyone monitoring the transactions directly. This has made Nike cut costs
dramatically as employees are not needed to complete tractions and their in-store
locations are not as crowded as they would be without the internet orders. This
process known as click and collect helped the company’s overall revenue for the
year of 2018 to be 36.4 billion, online sales accounting for 41% at the end of the year
(last quarter). This is clear evidence of the success Nike has received by adapting
the internet into their business with the online side of the business accounting for
such a huge percentage of revenue of the business they also maintain a lower cost
due to various factors such as storage being used instead of in store locations to
store a lot of their product and cutting out middle men when selling to customers
making their sales head more towards business to consumer instead of business to
business increasing their supply chain efficiency drastically. This all has been very
good for the business and Nike see their adaptation of the internet to the business as
a huge step in the right direction allowing them to maximise their profits more than
they expected and helped maintain their growth and market share in the industry.
Globalisation:
Globalisation has been an essential part of Nikes growth and has been a lot easier to
execute for the business with the involvement of the internet and has created huge
opportunity for business efficiency globally. Globalisation is of course important to
businesses as big as Nike and the internet has allowed them to exchange data about
their business and sell their products online with ease. As Nike initially enters
countries, they would only have a couple store locations at the most, with most their
product being sold either online or in other business establishments. As the internet
has become more readily available Nike takes advantage of the situation and uses
the internet to sell and advertise their products to countries they had not initially been
operated in. It has not only grown their business revenue but also their brand
recognition which has been helping Nike reinforce their brand internationally. The
internet has allowed the business to do all of this with a lot less resources than would
be needed without the internet as it allows their brand to be seen from anywhere with
internet access and not just through physical advertising which would be difficult to
