The role of internet marketing

“Internet marketing (also referred to as online marketing) is using tools and channels to
reach people online and showcase your company’s products.” Internet marketing is a
process used to promote products or services on the internet, using selection of tools that
the internet can provide to help drive traffic. There are many methods of internet
marketing, including targeted emails, affiliate marketing, Search engine optimization, using
the social media and endless more. The internet provides huge opportunities for businesses
of every size. Nowadays almost every business carries out some form of internet marketing
to gain sales. Internet marketing is much more effective than traditional marketing, due to
the increase in technology and more people using the internet around the world.

The benefits of Internet Marketing
One of the main benefits of internet marketing is the global reach of the target market. As
now more and more people use the internet all around the world, businesses can target
them all at once using the internet. The business does not need to travel and advertise in
every location to get their target market’s attention. With traditional marketing, in order to
get plenty of exposure, businesses would have to pay for billboard advertising in every
location, or on newspapers, these can cost quite a lot, and even then, businesses would not
be able to reach everyone around the world, which is why internet marketing has a clear
advantage here.
ASOS is one of the largest British fashion and cosmetic
online retailers. It founded on 3 June 2000, in London.
They sell over 850 brands as well as their own brand
range. ASOS are able to attract a wide range of
customers around the globe as their website can be
accessed anywhere in the world, and with that, they
also offer international deliveries. The company ships
to over 200 countries “The online store ASOS has
become a global ecommerce company with around
60% of its business coming from abroad.”
Another benefit of internet marketing is that it is cost effective. Advertising can be
expensive for any business, but it’s something they have to invest in order to gain attraction.
Internet marketing is cheaper compared to traditional. Advertising on billboards,
newspapers, printing and paying the television channels can be expensive. With internet
marketing, there is no traveling and printing involved so it is a much better choice. It can
help businesses save quite a lot of extra money instead of spending it on traditional
marketing, which they can use to invest into the business for expansion. ASOS send direct
email to their customers who have signed up with them with an email address, making them
aware of any offers or discounts that are available. This is an extremely cheap method of
marketing. ASOS also use social media such as Instagram to showcase their products and
offers; this does not cost them anything. ASOS is an online business, so they do not have to
pay for premises and rent and other costs that businesses with physical buildings would
have to.
