Problems using the internet
Internet is extremely important in businesses, nowadays almost every company uses internet to
carry out certain activities such as internet marketing, internet banking, emails etc. Internet is the
best way for companies to connect and interact with new people and gain new customers and
clients. More and more people like to shop from online as it is much easier, so companies have to
respond to that and allow customers to be able to shop from their website. Almost every business
has a website large and small, “64% of small businesses have a website.” However, when using the
internet there are guaranteed to be issues to be faced by the users in the business. Some common
problems include error messages, non – delivery of emails, blocking of wanted emails by firewall and
too many hits on a search engine.
Error messages - An error message is a message that pops on the screen informing the user of an
error that has occurred with taking the action that the user has taken. These messages are usually
shown in a dialog box. The user is able to cross out the error box which will take them back to where
they were before taking that action. An error message can be frustrating and time consuming to the
users because it blocks them from carrying out a certain action, this can be something important
such as saving documents on clients information. However, most error messages are extremely
minor and can be resolved in seconds, for example, naming a file with a name that already exists.
Some error messages will display informing that the error is unknown, this would require the user to
find out why the error has occurred which can be time consuming.
There are many ways to deal with this problem; some error messages include information and steps
on what to do in order to resolve the error, so the user just needs to follow the instruction given.
Some error messages would state only why the error has occurred and not on how to resolve it, this
would require the user to analyse and find out the reasons behind it, and then fix that issue before
attempting the action again. Error messages usually contain error codes, which are made up from
numbers and a phrase. They are used to determine what type of error it is and why it has occurred,
the users can look up this error and find out why it is showing and how to fix it, or they can pass the
error code to the IT department who will explain to the user on what steps to take. There are many
websites on the internet where other people post about a certain error messages asking for help,
these contain information on how to fix the issue that the user can use and follow. If the error
message pops up again after taking all the steps, the user would have to contact the IT to resolve the
issue for them.
