Response to competitive pressures to develop use of e-
business
Introduction
I am going to write about how Apple and Tesco have responded to competitive pressures to develop
their use of e-business. Going online has created many pressures for both Apple and Tesco; however
there are many ways they have responded to these pressures.
Apple
Apple is an American multinational technology company headquartered in in Cupertino, California.
The company designs, develops and sells many different products such as iPhones, laptops,
computers, TVs, iPods, Apple watch and other accessories such as headphones, iPhone cases and
much more. Apple’s most popular product is their iPhone; they have sold 46.89 units worldwide in
the fourth quarter of 2018. Apple is considered one of the big four companies alongside Amazon,
Microsoft and Google. Apple also provides a lot of services such as the iTunes, the App store, Apple
pay, AppleCare, Apple news and much more. Apple has 510 stores around the world and operates in
24 different countries. Apple operates in a technology sector, as they manufacture technical
products such as computers and phones.

England. Tesco mainly sell food and groceries, they also sell other products such as homeware,
clothing, electronics, magazines, toys and much more. Tesco also offers many different services
including financial services, telecoms and internet services. Tesco operates 3,961 stores in the UK
and the republic of Ireland; this also includes many franchise stores. The supermarket currently
operates in 13 countries, the only British supermarket that operates overseas, including hungry,
Malaysia, Thailand and many others. Tesco operates in a retail sector; they are a large supermarket
that sells a large range of products. Tesco is the leading grocery retailer in the UK, it is one of the big
four supermarkets alongside Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.
Reason for E-business
There are many different reasons for why businesses go online. One reason for why Apple and Tesco
have gone online is because of the consumer behaviour and the fact that there are more people
online People prefer shopping from online, as it is easier to find products on the internet on the
website, as it does not require any traveling, people can buy stuff from the comfort of their homes
and get the items delivered to their house. “More than half of UK consumers are now shopping
online and UK online spend is forecast to increase 29.6% between 2019 and 2024, according to retail
analysts at GlobalData” (retail-insight-network.com) this helps save time for the consumers, which is
also why they prefer shopping online.
For example, if someone wants to an iPhone from Apple, however the Apple store is far away from
their house, they would want to purchase from online as that way they would save time and also
gas. So consumers want to look for easier ways to buy things, which is why Apple and Tesco go
online, so that consumers can get what they want, which helps the businesses to get more sales.
There are also a lot of people online, the internet users are increasing more and more. “As of 2017,
there was an estimated 3.9 billion Internet users worldwide.” Because there are a lot of people
online, Apple and Tesco have the opportunity to reach more people by going online.
