Qualities
-Honesty:
The act of being truthful.
Honesty is one of the most, if not the most, important quality to possess. It provides and supports the
basis of trust and integrity. It allows the Public Services to develop and sustain a beneficial, reliable and
loyal relationship with the General Public.
Good/healthy Public relations will allow members of the Public and the Public Services to better
understand each other in turn enabling the aims, objectives and views of either to be acknowledged and
met easier.
Additionally, it is important to show honesty within/ between members of the Public Services. Especially
when responding to an incident/situation that requires one or more services to co-operate with each
other.
When reviewing the response to an incident/situation it is crucial that the Public Services are honest
with both themselves, Government and members of the Public.
If a mistake was made when dealing with a scenario, it is best to acknowledge it, be honest and open
about it and enable plans/procedures to be put in place to ensure it does not happen again.
Honesty was needed in the Fitness task because the achievements such as the time in which I completed
a workout had to be monitored and recorded by myself, without adjusting the record to benefit my
overall achievements.
It was also needed in the Forest task because I had to ensure that I did not lie about the locations of the
hidden objects, leading them of the ‘scent’ or if I gave another team some assistance during the task.
During the Forest activity I felt I was able to achieve this skill because I remained honest and impartial
throughout the task and informed the teams as to whether or not I provided them with additional
support throughout the task etc.
Additionally, I felt I was able to achieve this skill in the fitness task because I recorded honest, accurate
data representative of both mine and my teammates ability to complete the workout(S).
-Maturity
The phycological ability to recognize one's surroundings/environment and act accordingly with them in
terms of cultural, behavioral and social aspects.
Maturity is an essential quality to have within a team, particularly the Public Services as the trait is what
ensures that personnel/members of a team can remain composed and rational when
partaking/completing an operation/task.
Maturity was needed in Fitness task because the activities that I was carrying out required commitment
and focus, ensuring that I set personal restrictions such as not talking to other (distracting them and
myself) when completing a workout. This was so I could achieve the aim of getting the fastest time etc
possible for myself.
, It was also needed in the Security Searching task because we had to complete the task in the same
manner we would if we actually worked in the role of a Security worker. Additionally, maturity had to be
shown in this task as I was required to respond appropriately and professionally to the actions taken by
the individuals I was searching.
During the Fitness activity I felt I wasn’t able to achieve this skill to a high level because there were
moments throughout the workouts in which I ‘broke’ the restrictions and began to engage in
unnecessary conversations with my teammates which caused us to become distracted and disengage
from the task.
Additionally, I felt I was able to achieve this skill in the Security Searching task because I remained
professional and sensible through the process, following the proper procedures ensuring that I was
using the correct terminology and search methods etc.
-Respect
Showing positive emotion(S) or action(S) to someone or something deemed valued/important.
Similarly to Maturity, Respect is a fundamental trait within the Public Services as it forms the basis of a
command structure. Respect is shown mutually between members of personnel, both to peers and
superiors.
Additionally, respect must be shown when working with any partnering Services, organizations and
when observed by or in display/ view of members (of which there is a high likelihood).
Respect was needed in the Security Searching task because I was required to search a number of
individuals and their personal possessions, giving them the respect and decency that they deserve. I also
had to respect the decisions made by individuals during this task, such as when they did not want to be
searched.
It was also needed in Leadership presentation task because I had to ensure that I was paying attention
and answer to the best of my ability, the questions that my teammates had regarding my chosen
Leadership style.
Additionally I had to show respect by taking on board the feedback given to me by my peers regarding
both the content on the presentation and the delivery.
Similarly to my behavior/ability using maturity I felt I was able to achieve respect during the Security
Searching activity because I remained professional and sensible through the process, following the
proper procedures ensuring that I was using the correct terminology and search methods etc.
Additionally, I felt I was able to achieve this skill in the presentation task because I actively listen to
feedback from my peers and used it to evaluate both my technological and presentation skills etc and I
ensured I answer and all question posed to me appropriately and in detail.
-Patience
The ability to tolerate situations/actions etc. Without being overcome with negative emotions such as
anxiety /anger etc. Also defined as the ability to show self-restraint.
