Describe your real-life situation:
Having learnt about the Coronavirus (2019-nCov) recent outbreak (as of February 2020) in a Chinese city - Wuhan, I have
delved through information on this personally interesting for me topic. Following increasing amount of infected and
suspected patients, as well as lethal cases, there happened to emerge a lot of conspiracy theories regarding its root causes
and Chinese government's practises of hiding the death toll by burning bodies immediately.
State your central knowledge question (this must be expressed as a question):
To what extent is it justifiable to hold back relevant knowledge in reference to personal and shared knowledge?
Explain the connection between your real-life situation and your knowledge question:
All the theories regarding reliability of the statistics released daily by the Chinese government, as well as the causes of the
pandemic outbreak, made me wonder how significant the consequences of doubt in authenticity of information may possibly
be. When I found proofs for Chinese attempts to manipulate data - these include exponential growth model calculations and
eye-witnesses' testimonies - I came to wonder what the reasons for such manipulation are. Basing on History, they probably
include preventing panic and maintaining full control over the situation, so that the plague may get exterminated sooner. This
breeds a question whether it is justifiable, and if so - to what extent and in what circumstances, to hide trelevant knowledge,
be it in personal relations or globally accessible information.
