,Introduction
In this assignment, I will describe an analysis and explain how it can be used in sport. I will
then describe the different ways in which it is possible to analyse sports performance.
From my research into the types of analysis, I will choose two and create two self-analysis
forms for my two chosen sports; Aussie rules and netball. I will then complete these two
different forms for myself in my two sports. From this, I will be able to identify my
personal strengths and areas for improvement. I will explain why these are my strengths
and areas for improvements and explain what effect these have on you and the team. I
will then complete an in-depth analysis of my areas for improvement in both sports and
make recommendations for improvement. From this analysis, I will create and justify a
training programme that will help to improve my identified weaknesses in both sports. In
addition to this, I will create one type of team analysis to use in one team sport. I will
then identify the strengths and areas for improvement in that sports team. I will explain
why these are the strengths and areas for improvement and what effect that these will
have on the team. I will then complete an in-depth analysis of their areas for
improvement and made recommendations for improvement. From this, I will create and
justify a training programme to help them improve these identified weaknesses.
What is an analysis?
An analysis is a detailed examination of the elements or structure of something to better
understand it. It is more specifically, the process of breaking a complex topic or substance
into smaller parts in order to gain a better understanding of it.
What is a sports analysis?
A sports analysis is a systematic observation to enhance performance and improve a
player’s individual performance or a team’s performance.Sport Performance Analysis gives
athletes and coaches objective information that helps them understand and enhance both
team and player performance.
How can we analyse?
There are multiple ways in which an athlete’s performance can be analysed. These
include:
, Self analysis - Analysis of performance is the ability to observe and make appropriate
judgements. Self analysis means an athlete needs to identify strengths and prioritise
improvements in their performance.
Subjective - information or writing is based on personal opinions, interpretations, points
of view, emotions and judgment.
Objective - objective observation of measurable facts that involves no clouded judgment
with regards to the subject. It is essentially an unbiased, uninfluenced opinion
Qualitative Analysis - a qualitative analysis concerns itself with opinions and
interpretation of interactions. It predominantly uses words and images. It is used with the
intention of looking for patterns and themes that occur. For example, a conversation with
a team member about their performance is an example of qualitative analysis.
Quantitative Analysis - a quantitate analysis concerns itself with facts and figures. It
includes a theory with research that backs the theory up. A quantitative analysis is precise
and specific.
