Conscription reduced unemployment not only in the army, but in coal mines, the steel industry and textile mills as there was an increased demand for weapons, equipment and uniforms. The increased size of the army not only led to economic success, but boosted national pride as Germans felt like their country was finally recovering from the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles.

Some farmers disliked laws which stopped them from dividing up their land to give to their children, whereas others liked the idea that their farm would be secure for generations. Only the oldest child was able to inherit farms, so the rest of the children tended to go to work in cities for better pay, causing a decrease in the rural population of about 3% per year in the 1930s.

The Nazis wanted a population of Aryan übermensch (superior human beings); Aryans would be typically teutonic (blond, tall, blue-eyed, physically strong). The Nazis wanted to do this by removing untermensch (inferior human beings) from Germany; they targeted 'damaged' Aryans as well as members of 'inferior' races such as Jews and Romani. The Nazis aimed to create a homogeneous volksgemeinschaft, where there were no minorities.

About 350,000 disabled people were killed because Hitler didn't want disabilities passed on to children.

He repeated Nazi key messages (blame Jews for problems, criticise the Treaty of Versailles, make Germany great again) in film, radio, television, newspapers, etc. He banned anything that was viewed as harmful to the Nazis or Hitler, eg books, films, news articles.
