UNIT 5 : MEETING INDIVIDUAL CARE AND SUPPORT NEEDS
ASSIGNMENT TITLE: PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUALS IN THE
COMMUNITY

, LIZZIE OJUMU

In this assignment, there will be an outline on why equality and diversity are essential and
how they can be used to support individual needs. there will also be an explanation on why
promoting equality and diversity in health and social care settings is so important,
these case studies will show how it may be represented more positively and enhance
people's health and wellbeing.

Equality
Equality is making sure that there isn’t discrimination when supporting an individual and
making sure to treat individuals the same irrespective of their values, age, religion or
background. It is important to encourage equality in health and social care settings so that
individuals feel relaxed and open with their service provider and have a better chance of
recovering effectively as a result of positive treatment. Individuals may become more unwell
and not improve at all if there's not enough equality in these circumstances.
Diversity
Diversity is the process where all individuals are respected and appreciated equally. This
means that in a health and social care setting, no one's treatment is restricted or
jeopardised because of their differences, such as ethnicity, religion, or gender.
This also implies that in all health and social care settings the individual must be treated the
same but their personal needs or requirements must be considered, and the quality of
treatment must not be compromised because they do not share the same religion, culture,
gender, or sexuality. (www.bartleby.com, n.d.).
