(HIV). He should be able to have a fair and accessible service provided to him and should
not be discriminated against irrespective of his health conditions, he should be able to
access any service needed to meet his needs and requirements.
To promote equality and diversity, the service provider should be compassionate,
supportive and empathetic irrespective of Patrick and James differences, they should be
able to keep their information confidential and safe. Patrick and James are part of the
LGBTQ community, and they might not feel comfortable with their information or sexual
orientation being shared without their consent.
Patrick was able to meet formally with a support sexual health advisor, who continuously
assured him that he will be able to access all the facilities required to treat his health
condition and reassured him that he will be treated the same as everyone else, without
discrimination. The failure of promoting equality and diversity for Patrick might lead him to
depression, because he is being discriminated against because of his condition and might
cause him to have negative thought about himself and will also decrease his self-esteem and
will make him reluctant to participate in social activities.
Section 2 - Brenda Grey
Brenda Grey is 58 years old and lives alone in a sheltered accommodation, she is suffering
from mental ill health and has severe asthmatic, in-order to promote inequality and
diversity for Brenda, health care professionals need to provide a care plan to help the staff
at the sheltered accommodation to know the support Brenda would need. Brenda is
accompanied by an advocate, who listen to her perspectives and values and reassured her
that her record and issues will stay confidential and would not be shared without her
consent.
Promoting equality and diversity for Brenda would mean that she is allowed to express
herself, her opinions without being discriminated against, and ensures her safety,
preventing her from feeling embarrassed about her situation. Another way to promote
equality and diversity is creating a trusting relationship with Brenda and for the advocate to
spend more time with her and respect her choices.
Promoting diversity would mean the advocate recognizes that Brenda has differences
compared to the other service users, the negative impacts of not promoting equality and
diversity might lead to Brenda getting the wrong medication which will also have a large
impact on her health.
