UNIT 17

P1- explain the concept of the IOE

loe is the process of connecting people, process, data and things. Examples
of ioe can include smart home security systems, wearables, trackers etc. loe
will be developed in future, adapting machines and making them smarter.

Physical objects-a physical object is something that you can see and touch.
The ioe is a network of physical things that are implanted with sensors,
software and other technologies in order to connect and exchange data with
other technologies, physical objects need to have a connectivity with MAC
address and IP address for it to be an ioe physical object. It also needs to be
able to connect to the internet. Physical objects can include smartphone,
smart tv, Siri etc.

Experimental interactions- these include video games because they give you
an experience of something. Smart watches allow you to track how much
steps you have taken in a day. Experimental interactions are the interaction
between human and objects. Other examples of experimental interactions
include augmented and virtual reality. Virtual reality allows you to feel as if
you are there. It allows you to connect with a computer and create real life
experience. For example, you can virtually visit a university and this makes
you feel as if you are actually there. Augmented reality is mostly used by
businesses to promote their products. This is used to add digital elements to
the camera to improve experience.
Aids to people-these include objects that help you every day. Examples of
these include smart fridge, this helps you see what you need while shopping.
Other examples of loe can be smart doorbell, this when the doorbell buzzes
automatically when someone is there. smart bin is also an example of ioe,
this can pick up the rubbish which saves you time. Hearing aids is also an
example of aids to people, this helps people with hearing impairment to hear
and listen. Aid to society-ioe can benefit society through security systems.
Smart cars have parking sensors which allows them to park more quickly,
saving time. CCTV in the homes allow you to see who comes in and out your
house, reducing the chance of burglary. CCTV is also used in the streets and
businesses to see what's going on around. For example, streets use it to take
pictures of speed driving and businesses can use it to see what's going on
and prevent any losses. Machines-automatic cars have become more
increased and developed. Automatic cars can prevent stuff like accidents
because of sensors. Robots have also become developed in factories and
warehouses, where they store and pack the items. 5 key areas of
development Body/health-biosensors are worn and are used to measure your
temperature and breathing. These allow your GP or other healthcare
professional to detect and illness more quickly. Other equipment has also
been developed in order to track a patient's condition and prevent them from
getting infections. loe in healthcare have improved treatment, better
diagnosis of a disease and reduced chances of a mistake. This is because of
the wearables such as biometrics, thermometers and Bluetooth
thermometers. These are used by healthcare professionals to get the most
accurate readings. Home and garden- an example of ioe within the home is
smart tv this allows you to connect to the Wi-Fi and be able to watch things

, on YouTube, Netflix, amazon prime etc., smart fridge allows you to see what's
in the fridge while you are shopping from your smartphone in case you forget
somethin
smart bins pick up the rubbish and put it in the bin which means you do not
need to do it and saves you time smart heating helps you manage your
heating from anywhere for example you can manage it or monitor! from your
phone. These things allow you to control these things without you being there
or without you having to move. The improvement of smart technology saves
times and

reduces cost. City and neighbourhood-smart traffic lights reduce the chances
of an accident and there is more

road safety.

Industry-creating competitions between businesses, better image on the
business, more opportunities to improve, loe allows data gathering and
provides more security. However, because of robots being more developed,
people are starting to lose jobs.

The environment-reduces energy consumption, sensors can detect pollutions
levels and make sure they do not harm the environment. The Bluetooth
weather sensor makes predictions of the weather which can be internal or
external. This helps read what the temperature is or will be. Bluetooth maps
for the visually impaired people have also been introduced to help blind
people listen to the voice and go in the right direction. The real-time air traffic
allows the controller to see the location and also contact the pilot with the
radio. This also allows them to see the live air traffic.

The four pillars of ioe are people, process, data and things. People connect
through different ways with the use of social networks. With the use of new
technology, the way we connect will change. For example, wearables can
change the way you connect. Process happens between all the pillars. And
connections can become more relevant if it is processed correctly. Data is the
type of information that has been collected by people which are then
analysed, and decisions are made. Things are physical objects that connect
to the internet such as smartphone, this is a touchscreen device that allows
you to send and receive calls or messages. People-the ioe connects people in
a relevant way, people are the ones who use the ioe and companies and
businesses are making products that helps them gain more customers.
Without the people, ioe could be useless. People use internet to connect in
different ways using different social media apps such as email, Instagram,
snapchat, Facebook and twitter. Students are target for ioe, this is because
they mostly use phones and social media compared to other aged people. As
well as this ioe can be beneficial for education because the internet can
provide you with information as well as online revision and websites to help
you learn. Students also like to communicate with each other to keep
updated on any work, this can be through different social media apps.
