Unit 18 - Rural Tourism
P1 - Explain how different types of UK rural areas meet the motivations of different types of visitors
M1 - Analyse the opportunities provided by one rural area to meet a range of motivational needs

In this assignment I will be explaining how different types of UK rural areas meet the motivations of
different types of visitors as evidence for P1. I will then go onto analyse the opportunities provided by one
rural area, to meet a range of motivational needs which will provide evidence of M1.

National
Parks
National Parks are areas which are protected because of their beautiful countryside, wildlife and cultural
heritage. In the UK we have 15 National Parks where people live and work. The farms, villages and towns
where they work are protected, but they also attract many visitors, which gives them a chance to learn
about the area.

There are 10 in England: The Broads, Dartmoor, Exmoor,
the Lake District, the New Forest, Northumberland, the
North York Moors, the Peak District, the South Downs and
the Yorkshire Dales.

2 in Scotland: Cairngorms and Loch Lomond & the
Trossachs.

And 3 in Wales – the Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire Coast,
and Snowdonia.

Brecon
Beacons
Visitor Types: I think the main type of visitors for the Brecon Beacons would be elderly maybe retired
people as it is a place where they can indulge in the natural landscape and enjoy the scenery. It is also a
chance for them to relax and have peace and quiet.

This would also be a good place for students to visit for education purposes. They might go on a geography
or geology trip. The Brecon Beacons is also Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Area.
