Unit 17: Planning and managing a training programme
P1
In this task, I will be looking at the aim of Saver Plus and the types of training that would be most
suitable for each level in the company.
The main aim of Saver Plus is to start opening new stores, so they can increase the business. By
opening more stores, Peter Singh will get bigger market share which will be beneficial for the
business. Moreover, the new stores will be something new and exciting for the customers and will
immediately get their attention, which will lead to great success and increased profit. Also, more
stores mean higher market share, which will be an advantage for Savers Plus as it will highlight that
the company is marketing in the right way and they will get the attention of investors and build
strong customer base. The other aim of Savers Plus Company is to increase their product range. For
example, by starting to sell technologies. By expanding their products range the company will show
that they care developing successfully which will attract many new clients and retain strong
relationships with their customers. Launching new products, will help Saver Plus to aim at different
and wider target market, which will be beneficial for the company and their revenue. Furthermore,
increasing the range of products means more options for the customers and meeting more
individual tastes.
The most suitable training for the organisational level of Savers Plus would be benchmarking. This
type of training will allow the company to evaluate their position and to see how well they are
performing by comparing themselves to other companies and competitors. Benchmarking is useful
in identifying the training needs as it allows the company to see how well they and the employees
are preforming, so they can create training programme for the staff. For example, at this level the
company can use benchmarking to compare their marketing strategies and methods to other
competitors marketing, so they can create suitable training for the missing gaps.
Another method of training identification for organisational level is skills audit. This will help Savers
Plus to identify the skill gaps of their employees and to find the most suitable way to train them, in
order to fill those gaps and improve their skills. For example, skills audit will help the company to
increase the productivity of the workforce as they will be gaining the exact skills they need to
perform their job effectively.
As the organisational level are the top people within the company, their duties and responsibilities
are way more complex and the training they need to receive should be at higher and more advanced
level, as they need to keep everything updated and ensure that everyone is aware of the new
technologies, new roles, new target audience etc.
The most appropriate type of training for the departmental level of Savers Plus would be updating
and retraining, as it is a process of refreshing and developing skills of the employees. For example,
when new technologies are introduced, the department will need to learn how to use them and
update their knowledge. This will ensure that all the employees are up to date with different new
policies and conditions. For example, updating and retraining will be needed if there is new software
in the marketing department, as the whole department will need to update their skills, so they can
effectively perform their job.
The training in the departmental level will help the employees in certain departments to improve
their skills and knowledge in certain areas, such as customer service, new software, changed target
audience. When they receive the most appropriate training they will be able to perform their job
effectively, for example by providing excellent customer service and make the clients of the
company happy.
The most suitable type of training for the individual level of Savers Plus Company, would be the
training cycle. The training cycle will help the company to identify the specific needs of the
