A. Objective Condition of Africa before Islam
a) Geographical location of Africa
The African continent is located at 37°N - 34°S and 17°B
- 51°BT. Geographically, the African continent is located
between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. The African
continent is also next to the European continent.
b) Religion & beliefs
Religion in Africa consists mostly of the Chaldean religions
(Christianity and Islam). However, the diversity of religions
cannot be separated from African traditional religious practices
associated with folk religious traditions or syncretism which are
also eventually practiced together within Christianity or Islam.
Judaism also has roots in Africa, this is because according to
biblical tradition the Israelites spent time in Egypt. About 15%
of the people on the African continent follow one of the
traditional African religions and a small minority of Africans are
non-religious.
c) Economy & livelihood
The main livelihoods on the African continent are:
1. North Africa: agriculture, mining and trade
2. East Africa: animal husbandry
3. Central Africa: animal husbandry
