UNIT 19 – Retailing
D1 –
In this task I will be evaluating the distribution systems in delivering goods and services for
MissKick, I will also explain how these have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
MissKick is a small independent company, as a result their distribution methods would need
to be effectively thought through in order to meet with their current financial limits, this
may include cheaper transport methods and smaller storage systems. Currently, MissKick
are using water transport systems for their goods abroad, I find this a good method for the
company as although this would take a longer duration of time for the company to receive
the stock, this cost-effective process allows the business to inherit in environmentally
sustainable systems to also have less risk of damage in transit, in comparison to air which
may destroy or effect the quality of the products. From a rating of one being lowest and five
being the highest rating of effectiveness, I will find this a four as this may cause a setback if
there are higher demands in products and the company doesn't currently have enough
stock to ship in time.
On the other hand, the company may not always use environmentally friendly
transportation methods, this is due to transporting their stock to their warehouse, the
company would need to use roads and therefore release carbon emissions. Consequently,
the business should look into other methods such as rail, this is due to it being least affected
by weather conditions, high speed for long distances and is organised. As a result, I would
rate this transportation method a three as although it may be convenient for suitable
timings, it would be easier and cheaper to implement more efficient methods for the
company.
MissKick simply takes a warehouse as their storage system, although this may be smaller in
comparison to what other businesses use, this would still be an effective amount of space
for MissKick to stock all of their products. Similarly, the warehouse would most likely be
owned by another business, therefore this is at MissKicks advantage if there were to be any
fires, thefts, or damages as it would be at the warehouses insurance company who would be
paying any claims. I find this an effective storage option as this is convenient for MissKicks
business scale and suitable for the amount of stock she receives and sells, therefore I would
rate this a five.
Conversely, it is evident that through my past discussions with MissKick and their lack of
environmentally friendly investments, this is additionally affected from their double plastic
packaging, although this may be light to carry and cheap, this harsh material can take
hundreds of years to degrade once found in waters and is very dangerous for the
ecosystem.
As a result, I would rate this a two as although this is a charitable business that does place
some of their profits to their football charity, they could easily be making small changes that
would also have big impacts to contribute to world improvements. I would recommend
MissKick to invest in some environmentally friendly packaging options such as cardboard
