A handbook which: Explains the development of the ideas of the structure and bonding of benzene; Explains the chemical properties of benzene, phenol, and methylbenzene and why these properties make them important in industrial reactions; Compares the mechanism for addition and substitution reactions of benzene; Analyses the effects of the monosubstituents -OH, -Cl, -NO2 and -CH3 on the position(s) on the ring of incoming species if further substitution reactions take place.
