, Introduction
In this merit task I will be explaining and comparing the function of formats and location in
retailing. I will be comparing minimum of four retailers which are Westfield Stratford,
Gallions Reach Shopping Pak, Bicester village and Box Park Shoreditch. There also will be
examples and reason and purpose of their locations as well as looking at the similarities and
differences between the different formats.
Gallions Reach
Gallions reach is a retail shopping park which has over 700 retail stores for example, New
look, JD, H&M, Tesco and many more stores. These retail shops are also known online where
customers can order products and items on the business website or app, such as JD
customers are able to order online and get their trainer, bags, or clothes delivered to their
house. Furthermore, Tesco is a supermarket that sell grocery’s and they have their own
clothing bran called F&F; Tesco also have their own app were customers can order what
they want delivered to their house. This is a very useful shopping style for many people as
during the corona outbreak and lockdown people had to stay indoors to safe, business
having websites and app to order their orders helps them stay indoor also still have their
goods. In addition, a shopping market such as Bicester village is also alike Gallions Reach. As
Bicester village has retail stores in their shopping park for example, Alexander McQueen,
Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, DKNY and many more. However, both shopping park have
difference Bicester Village stores are all based on designer’s business such as Girard
Perregaux and Gucci. These retailers store product’s and items retail for an expensive price
e.g. from £100 to £3000, on the other hand retailer stores in gallisons reach aren’t high end
shops these stores are business that retail their products for affordable prices from £5 to
£200.
Gallions Reach is located near a large car park many of their stores are retail stores in their
area, the location is near a highway, there is also bus stops near the shopping park to
customer’s can use transport such as buses and cars, so this means is very easy for
customers reach the shopping park. In addition, a similarity with another shopping park that
also has public transport in its location is Westfield shopping mall. Westfield mall has a bus
station which means there are many buses stops also a train station which is called Stratford
trains station, this means Westfield location is very popular and well known. Yet the
difference with both shopping park and mall is that Gallisons is that gallisons reach is located
where there are no train stations, but Westfield has Stratford train station located right next
to it.
Furthermore, Gallions Reach format layout is outside it is a shopping park that isn’t a
building, it a major retail park that is in Beckton east London, England. However, the
shopping park has several retails stores that customers can shop from also food stores such
as subway and pizza express. A shopping mall park that is also very similar to Gallions reach
is box park, box park mall has many food and retail stores same as Gallions reach. Although
the differences between both shopping parks is that Box park is a building that has a roof on
top of it and the stores are in the building, however Gallions reach does not have a building
it is an outside shopping park, as does not have a roof in top if it.
