, INTRODUCTION
Dear tutors,
Please consider the following information regarding this block Finance and Accounting.
Basic course structure:
As described in section 4 of the blockbook, the basic structure of the block involves a weekly
lecture that will introduce the topics discussed in the two tutorial meetings of that week. As
usual, tasks will be pre-discussed first and then discussed in the next tutorial meeting.
When looking at some of the tasks (i.e. tasks 3 and 10 but also 5, 8, 11) and their solutions, you will
notice that these are quite demanding tasks. In previous years we learned that due to the length and
complexity of these tasks students tend not to have a solution prepared. I therefore recommend
that during the pre-discussion-tutorial you set up small working groups of about 3 students each.
Each working group is assigned a task and should provide a solution at the discussion-tutorial - for
example in form of a printout of the excel sheet containing their calculations. I hope that this
facilitates the tutorials.
Rules for evaluation of participation:
Due to a change in the exam regulations, the evaluation rules have to be stated in the blockbook –
this also applies to any block assignment. For this course, the block assignment will be required of
each student who receives an insufficient attendance record for more than 3 tutorial meetings. Thus,
please keep an attendance record of each meeting. - In particular, you should keep a record of two
items:
(1) The physical presence of the student during the tutorial, and
(2) The sufficient or insufficient participation of the student during the tutorial.
As described in the blockbook, students need to be present and obtain sufficient participation in at
least 11 of the 14 tutorial meetings. If students fail in their attendance, you should inform students
when they receive their 2nd and 3rd insufficient attendance record. This should give students
sufficient time to improve their presence and participation.
Please fill out the participation forms as clearly as possible and submit them to me at the end of the
block. Make sure that students sign this form during the last tutorial!
Student requests:
Students might contact you regarding joining your tutorial even if they are not enrolled in the
course. This is not possible! Please send these students to the scheduler who can decide whether or
